About Us

President’s Message

It is indeed heartwarming to note that most of our collective goals, aspirations, and dreams that we had envisaged about ‘community well-being’ years ago have translated into success stories. It is all due to the efforts of our Associates, Affiliates, and a countless number of people achieving their health goals since our establishment nearly four decades ago.

It is also worth noting that most of our students have embarked on full-fledged/lucrative careers in Yoga. They are spreading and spearheading the ancient wisdom as a  way of life besides owning center[s] upon graduation from our yoga courses worldwide.

In the past seven years, we have consistently met our objectives of serving the cause of Yoga by demonstrating the highest standard of teaching and providing all the necessary support.  The result is that many instructors who graduated from our University continue to enjoy being our affiliates and associates worldwide, what’s more! The students have also accredited themselves to be members of the Yoga Certification Board of the Ministry of AYUSH ( YCB) also become members of the Indian Yoga Association ( IYA), Asian Yoga Therapists of Association (AYTA)   International association based in Singapore.

All other Yoga Instructors and centers not currently teaching our Yoga modules and programs or indirect association with us are welcome to join hands and become VYASA, Affiliates in India, and as VYASA.Associates at International levels.

The year 2014 will go down in Vyasa / S Vyasa history as 0ne of the most significant years. We have officially labeled Yoga programs developed by our University Research Centre as ‘Vivekananda Yoga.’ 

We warmly welcome each of you to join our global net work and continue the journey to learn, practice, teach, and own our Yoga programs.   The coordinated efforts will continue to benefit the society at large, especially in overcoming the challenging times that all of us are in;

This is an open invitation to all of you to be a part of this magnificent endeavor of rebuilding a healthier society around us.

Dr. H R Nagendra holds PhD in Mechanical Engineering from IISc, Bangalore and is the president of VYASA. After receiving his doctorate in 1968, he served as faculty of IISc in Department of Mechanical Engineering. He then served as Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the University of British Columbia, Canada in 1969..

From there, he moved to NASA Marshall Space Flight Centre, USA as Post-Doctoral Research Associate in 1970, moved to Engineering Science Laboratory, Harvard University, USA as a Consultant in 1972 and Visiting Staff at Imperial College of Science and Technology, London later.

In 1975, he joined Vivekananda Kendra, a service mission as a whole-time worker. Honorary Director of Training Centre, Vivekanandapuram, Kanyakumari. Between 1975 and 1993, he served as the All India Secretary, Yoga Shiksha Vibhag, Vivekanand Kendra, Kanyakumari and between 1979-1986 also as Secretary, Vivekananda Kendra Yoga Therapy & Research Committee (VK YOGAS). Between 1993 and 2000, he was the All India Vice-President of Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari.

From 1986 to 2000, he was the Secretary of Vivekananda Kendra Yoga Research Foundation, Bangalore and the Director of Indian Yoga Institute, Prashanti Kutiram. From 2000 to the present, he has been serving as President, Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana, Bangalore and from 2002 to 2013, he served as the Vice Chancellor of Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana, Yoga University in Bangalore. He is now the Chancellor of S-VYASA Deemed University.

He has published 30 Research Papers in Engineering; authored and collected 110 papers on Yoga and co-authored 35 books on Yoga. He has guided nearly 20 PhD students.
